The Perfect Sweater for Winter

About Me

The Perfect Sweater for Winter

I have lived in the southern United States all of my life. Thankfully, the state I live in doesn’t usually experience much harsh, cold weather during the winter months; however, I do need to bundle up in something warm when heading outside from time to time. Oftentimes, I reach for my favorite sweater. The versatile sweater I’m referring to is a leopard print, cashmere cardigan. I absolutely love the way cashmere feels against my skin. I adore this soft sweater because I can wear it to the grocery store, to church, to the movies, or even to a holiday gathering. On this blog, I hope you will discover the winter clothing staples that look great with any type of outfit. Enjoy!

Christening Gowns: Detail And Preservation

A child's christening is a momentous occasion for any family and signifies a dedication of faith to continue through a new generation. With this celebratory occasion comes the choosing of the christening gown, a symbolic representation of the ceremony to occur. With lacework making a huge comeback, christening gowns are no exception to including this unique and detailed element. Here is a brief overview of the different types of christening gowns and how to go about preserving them following the ceremony.

Christening gowns come in a wide variety of styles and showcase a great array of detail depending on the gown. Families may choose a design as simple or ornate as they desire, depending on personal preferences or church recommendations. Those who love a more traditional look, for instance, would do well with a gown that displays fine lace as a primary element. Families who prefer a more simple aesthetic, on the other hand, can choose a gown that is free from overt decoration while still retaining elegance and class with a more minimal lace design. The length of the gown will typically fall to the ankles of the child or even past the feet for smaller infants. Though the gown may appear to be on the longer side, the symbolism of the gown itself in relation to the innocence of the child and rebirth through baptism will be apparent. Bonnets are not a requirement, though favored by many families to adorn their child's head.

While the christening gown may only be worn once, the memory associated with the event will last a lifetime. For this reason, it is helpful for the proper preservation of the gown to hold up through the years. With a few different options to choose from, the family can decide on what choice would work best for them. While plastic bags may be the natural choice of those looking to preserve such a precious item, it does not adequately provide the protection needed. To ensure enough airflow is reaching the garment, natural materials are highly recommended. One popular option is to buy a garment bag made of a material such as muslin which endures aging spectacularly. Another choice would be an all-cotton garment bag to protect the gown and is extremely easy to clean. If the family prefers, specialized boxes can also be crafted to hold the christening gown and create a memorable keepsake in the process.

Regardless of the type of gown chosen for their child, the family will remember the event as a beautiful ritual and ceremony of their faith. With a vast array of choices to pick from, there are styles of christening gowns for all types of style preferences. Those who have family traditions associated with christening gowns may also take inspiration from past loved ones. Following the ceremony, the preservation of the gown will allow the family to safeguard the memory that they hold dear to them. A ritual is meant to be cherished for life, and the celebration will only be magnified by the perfect christening gown.
